More than 500 partygoers will be dancing into the wee morning hours this weekend as a squad of DJs from Guam and Japan play solo and back-to-back sets at BLOOM, an international electronic music experience against a backdrop of Japanese floral gardens.
The Hermit Crab Beach Bar and Grill will be transformed for BLOOM, an electronic music festival featuring DJs from Japan and Guam on Nov. 12, 2022.
The event, which begins at 5 p.m. Saturday and ends 2 a.m. Sunday, takes place at The Hermit Crab Beach Bar and Grill.
The entire space will feature separate areas and bars for general admission, VIP and VVIP guests, including the bar’s rooftop viewing deck, a Sakura Garden, Momo (Peach) Garden, and backdrops that you’ll be seeing on Instagram throughout the night (FOMO anyone?).
While the higher-level tickets are already sold out, you can buy general admission tickets for $50 up to and throughout Saturday at the door and online at mghbloom.eventbrite.com.
Brought to you by MGH Productions and Alter X Ego Entertainment, “the concept for BLOOM was to recreate flowers blooming,” said Maria Gabriella Hizon, founder of MGH Productions.
Aimed at “the next generation of boys and girls,” Hizon and Benjamin Schiff of Alter X Ego hope “to introduce people who are new to events … a new atmosphere by showcasing talent both locally and internationally.”
The international talent consists of Tokyo DJs 2Wasted and FRANCO, while the local lineup includes CRUX, 777, Lil Meish, Jay Edwards, Samurai, Lucy Skooma, Lezeah, AWXCORD, Jozy, Katana and Sunny G, with STRAIGHTUP JED acting as host.
The local DJs will be pairing up for B2B sets, while both Tokyo DJs will each have their own set. L Boogie, a military service member, will be headlining his own set in a nod to the weekend holiday, Veterans Day.
“We do like to give back to our service members who’ve been fighting for our island continuously and through … Guam’s history,” said Schiff, who added that proceeds from the festival will be donated to one or several local veterans organizations.
Festivalgoers will have plenty of opportunities to support those organizations as well as local small businesses. In addition to Hermit Crab’s grill and three food trucks to sustain you through the night, vendors will be on hand to customize your festival look with bedazzling gems, face painting, henna and more.
For your sipping enjoyment, there will be several alcoholic beverages fairly new to the island: Gasolina Urban Blends’ cocktails in a pouch (think boozy Capri Suns) will spare bartenders and partiers from standing in long lines waiting for drinks to be mixed; WhiCo will be offering its “healthiest alcohol we can drink” — a blend of rye whiskey and coconut water; and White Claw will have a variety of its flavored seltzers.
And while masks are not required, they are encouraged, Schiff said, adding that the event will have hand sanitizing stations and a temperature check as you enter.
In a press release distributed Thursday, Schiff couldn’t resist the opportunity for a pun: “I’m ‘blooming’ with excitement for a brand new EDM event on Guam like no other, blending our island’s history between Japan, locals and military services personnel with performing DJs from each coming together under one stage.”
