Oliver Heldens tends to mix Acapella Intro tracks during Outro sections in songs
This type of mixing, results to a live mashup blend, and it’s pretty easy to do, if you have the right tracks. But don’t worry, all the tracks we’ll use in this video are free to download.
Anyway, you’re gonna need a track that has an intro and vocal breakdown,
we’ll call this track the Vocal Track,
Second, you need a track that has an Outro section, and we’ll call this track the Outro Track.
So the first thing you should do is know how many beats the Intro section of your Vocal track has. For this track, it’s 16.
Next, with that knowledge, all you have to do now is Beat Jump backwards by 16 beats from the Outro track’s Outro section and cue point that section.
So once we reach this section on the Outro track, we’ll then trigger in our Vocal track. Then we’ll cut it’s Low EQ, and bring up its volume fader once we reach the outro section.
Once we’re there, we’ll let these two tracks play with each other. Then we’ll mix out from the Outro Track.
Number 2. When you DJ electronic tracks, sometimes you encounter boring breakdowns sections, so to keep his mixes exciting Oliver Heldens, tends to mix acapellas at those sections to spice em up and to create anticipation for the 2nd drop.
So when his current song on Deck 3 reaches its breakdown section, he then plays in the looped acapella on Deck 1
Then he halves it after 32 beats, then he halves after 16 beats, then he halves it again after 8 beats, and fades the Acapella away.
Now another useful way to use this technique is to implement it during the build up section of a song. So when the current song reaches its Build Up section, simply play your acapella and half things up starting from 16 to 8 to 4.
Number 3. So Oliver Heldens is known for doing mostly long blends and smooth and clean transitions. So he doesn’t implement a lot of DJ tricks and effects, but he does accent his tracks with Echoes and Filter sweeps.
So when Oliver Heldens mixes his next track in, he always has its Low EQ all the way to the left side, then when he gets to the track’s transition point, he then turns the Low EQ of the current song all the way to the left side, and brings the next songs Low EQ to the 12 o’clock position
Sometimes he alters this by also reducing the Mid EQ of his current song, and High Pass Filtering it slightly
The reason he does this type of mixing is because he’s a House DJ focused on clean and seamless transitions. And speaking about cleanliness, the secret to Oliver’s smooth mixing is that he takes his time when blending. Only choosing to mix during outro sections.
