Looking at the software, it will appear to look as if your laptop is connected to a Serato compatible controller.
Starting at the top left, you have menu options to choose from, where you can activate an FX panel, samplers, and a crossfader/EQ display. For best use, I recommend activating crossfader display.
On the top right, you have a master volume knob with a volume level display.
Below, you will see the two decks that feature hot cues, loop section, track information, play/pause button, sync, tempo sliders and the jogwheel.
And below the deck section, this is where you’’ll be able to see the waveforms of your tracks A.
In addition, you have the multicolored waveform and track library beneath that.
Let’s start by creating a new create by selecting the new crate button here. With this, you can drag in any song file from your Serato library or computer drives just like this.
Be sure to analyze your tracks first by dragging them to the analyze icon.
What this does, is it allows Serato to quickly scan the track and identify it’s BPM, which stands for Beat Per Minute.
The BPM is a measurement of the speed of the track. The higher the BPM of the track, the faster it’ll be and vice-versa.
This is important to know, as we want to mix tracks of the same BPM.
Now, not every track will be the same speed, but luckily, with softwares like Serato Lite, we are able to adjust the BPM’s of tracks so that they can match.
So let’s load our tracks by dragging them onto decks 1 and 2. By looking at their BPM’s, we can see that they don’t necessarily match, but are within close range. Our track on the left is 125 BPM and the on the right is 127 BPM.
I recommend just using sync, as it may become a little complicated to do it manually through your computer.
Now that you have your BPM’s matched, we can begin mixing the tracks together.
We’ll mix the 32 beat intro section of the next song, once we reach the 32 beat outro section of the current song.
So basically, as the first track finishes and leads into its outro section, we’ll start our next song via it’s intro section, and start mixing from there.
