MJ Cole tells the story behind his UKG classic, ‘Sincere’.
A classically trained artist, MJ Cole gives us an insight into his early years discovering electronic music, and how at first he didn’t have an interest in house of garage at all.
‘Sincere’ was made in 1998, and subsequently picked up by Pete Tong, before later being signed by Giles Peterson’s Talking Loud. The single broke into the Top 40 UK charts and when ‘Sincere’ was released on MJ Cole’s debut album of the same name two years later, it earned him MOBO Award and nominations and the Brits and Mercury Music Prize.
25 years on, the song is still a favourite. This year MJ Cole will perform a series of 25 years of ‘Sincere’ shows around the UK, including a headline performance at KOKO Electronic in December.
