From humble beginnings in Mexico City Omar was born the son of a composer and musician and has been studying music since the age of 12 and immediately gravitated to wards the piano, keyboard synthesizers, percussive instruments and drums. At only 14 years old Omar landed his first DJ residency in Mexico City at the famous Emporium which launched his career in his teens as he shared the stage with leg-endary acts like Green Velvet, Dos & Martin & Tommie Sunshine.
In the early 2000’s Labastida held residencies in night clubs that shaped the underground music movement in Mexico like Pacha, Allegro, XTC, Artico, La Roca and the crown jewel of that era on The Riviera Maya, La Boom. It was easy to see that Omar Labastida was quickly becoming one of the most sought after artists in Mexico, but, that’s just the beginning of this artist’s history.
One of the most impactful residencies in Omar’s early career was at the world famous Blue Parrot in Playa Del Carmen. This easily inserted Omar into the line up at one of the most important events in the music world and all of Mexico, The BPM Festival©. From 2008 tp pressent day Labastida has been a Main Stage presence at The BPM Festival a s he has appeared side by side with world famous international artists such as Dubfire, Sharam, CarlCox, SanderVanDoorn, Luciano, NicFanciullI, DannyTenaglia, Green Velvet, Guti, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Maya Jane Coles, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Hot Since 82, Maceo Plex, The Martinez Brothers, DeepDish (Sharam & Dubfire), Sander Kleinenberg, Hernan Cattaneo, Paul Oakenfold, Chris Fortier, Audiojack, Sergio Fernandez, Rick Pier O’Nell, Victor Calderone, Steve Angello, Gabriel & Dresden, Anthony Pappa, Paul Van Dyk, Bob Sinclar, Stan Kolev, Lazaro Casanova, Piruppa, Adam K, Miss Kitin, Laidback Luke, Chloe Harris, Audiojack, RPO, and Sergio Hernández, Sean Miller, Danny Howells, Andrew Grant, Luca Baccheti, Dirty South, Carlo Lio, The Junkees, Saeed Younan, and Craig Petigrew.
His Ding skills and numerous award winning releases have taken him all over the world as Omar has appeared at MusicOn, Cocoon Heroes, Yoshitoshi Showcase, Deeperfect Showcase, Stereo Showcase, MI Casa Su Casa and far too many major international events to even begin to mention.
In 2004 Omar Labastida started releasing blockbuster music on labels like Toolroom, Stereo Productions, Deeperfect, RAW, Younan Music and his own imprint Riviera Underground. He achieved the Beatport #1 spot with his dancefloor killer “Milk Your Sisters Cat” on Mark Knight’s Toolroom. Omar has produced and released more than 500 tracks and has charted countless times on every platform across the board.
With his brand -Riviera Underground- as a label and brand, they are doing amazing showcases in Ibiza, Portugal, France, Mexico & Spain…
