Sweet Female Attitude’s Leanne Brown and Ceri Evans, aka Sunship, share the story behind one of the UK garage’s most loved classics, ‘Flowers’.

Leanne reflects on the origins of Sweet Female Attitude in Manchester, and how the original R&B version of ‘Flowers’ came to be before ultimately being shelved.

It was Sunship who discovered that original tune, putting a bright UKG spin on it that, upon its official release in 2000, saw it burst into the charts, appear on Top of the Pops, and blossom into the loved-up classic that it is today.

The pair reflect on ‘Flowers’’ legacy, which has seen it reimagined by the likes of Sugababes, Krept & Konan and PinkPatheress over the years, and on its latest resurgence in popularity amidst the contemporary UKG renaissance.

Electronic music history is rich with unforgettable and timeless classics. In our series, DJ Mag explores the tales behind some of the world’s favourite dance tracks, told by the people that made them.
